Our History
Bayview Senior Services (aka Bayview Hunters Point Multipurpose Senior Services) has responded to community needs and catalyzed neighborhood activism and advocacy since 1971.
Our programs and activities are designed to enhance and retain the health, quality of life, and culture of African American elders who remain long-standing members of communities in San Francisco. We believe that when older adults and people living with disabilities in African American communities are cared for with dignity, honor, and respect, they will be able to age in place and maintain a strong and vibrant cultural presence in San Francisco.
Our programs, open to all seniors and persons with disabilities, include three senior centers, nutritious meals, information/ referral, case management, adult day health care, money management, housing advocacy, and support for justice-involved seniors who return to our community.
For 36 years, Bayview Senior Services has operated the Dr. George W. Davis Senior Center at 1706 Yosemite Avenue. This center was named after the agency’s executive director of 30 years, who passed away in 2010. His vision — and now that of the community — was to create a one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art senior center co-located with senior housing to ensure a safe and vibrant future for the neighborhood’s aging population.
In June 2016, the dream became a reality with the grand opening of the new Dr. George W. Davis Senior Residence and Senior Center. The 15,000-square-foot new senior center allows for expanded programs and services. It was designed to engage seniors and improve their economic circumstances, health, and well-being. The co-located Dr. George W. Davis Senior Residence provides 120 housing units for low-income neighborhood seniors and people with disabilities.
The long-term vision for Bayview Senior Services includes the continuum of care through the coordination of housing, social services, health care, financial services, recreation facilities, and economic ventures that will ensure seniors have the option to improve their quality of life.
