THANK YOU
We thank you for supporting our seniors and making Black Cuisine 2023 Successful Yet Again!
Soul food was born out of struggle and survival within the African American community.
Although the African American community is one of the hardest hit during this pandemic, enduring almost every challenge and loss imaginable, we have continued to overcome time and time again.
Bayview Senior Services remains a pillar in the community that consistently provides nourishment for our communities’ body and soul. Black Cuisine is deeply rooted in coming together to tell the stories of triumph from generation to generation by celebrating African American culture and heritage.
Your participation in Black Cuisine makes an important contribution to our work with Seniors.
Thank You!

41 years of Black Cuisine: Food is Love. Black Cuisine is a delicious fundraiser for Bayview Senior Services. It was founded by the late DR. GEORGE W. DAVIS in 1979, highlighting the best of soul food and African American culture. What started out as a soul food cooking contest amongst seniors to educate youth about their rich African American history, evolved into the longest standing festival in Bayview Hunters Point. The festival attracts thousands with its food booths, vendors, live entertainment and other activities.
Black Cuisine 2020 was cancelled at the recommendation from San Francisco’s Department of Public health to cancel large non-essential events due to COVID-19. While the in person gathering was called off, meals were offered on a take out basis – thus the spirit of Black Cuisine prevailed.
